VW Phaeton 2014
VW Phaeton 2014 - The VW Phaeton 2014 stretches to 199.0 inches in length, is powered by a 6.0-liter 12-cylinder engine making 414 horsepower, and features an air-conditioning system so complex it splits the interior into four separate zones.
VW Phaeton 2014 Price
When this humble VW goes on sale in the U.S. next year, top-of-the-line versions will cost $85,000. Maybe more. Yet just like a $15,600 Golf, the Phaeton wears Volkswagen badges.
There will be a VW Phaeton 2014 that will feel new as compared to the current gen, which we think is very boring in terms of design and driveability. You would never feel excited when you step into a Phaeton, unlike its competitors like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class or the Jaguar XJ. It’s a car that, frankly speaking, one wouldn’t look forward to sitting and driving when you go to work or for a long drive. It’s been sitting on the same old platform for the last 10 years with little tweaks to the design and changes to the engine line-up. For VW to make the Phaeton a success in the luxury saloon market, little tweaks just isn’t enough. Not because the Phaeton W-12 is a hot rod-although 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds is impressive for anything weighing 5436 pounds-but because it attains illegal speeds as if by magic. There is no chirp at launch, thanks in part to 4MOTION all-wheel drive.
Ulrich Hackenberg, VW’s chief of research and development, confirmed late last year that the VW Phaeton 2014 will be offered in the United States shortly after it debuts in Europe. The next Phaeton will ride on the same platform as the Audi A8 and it will be largely built out of aluminum in order to shed as much weight as possible. The Phaeton 2014 will also grow a little, with the short-wheelbase variant expected to stretch no less than 196 inches long. Judging from these unofficial renderings of the car, the Phaeton’s exterior could borrow heavily from the A7 Sportback, Audi’s luxury-laden 5-door that was introduced this year.
